The research titled “Potential for Carbon Storage and Absorption of Eucalyptus urophylla Litter in the Mutis Timau Natural Forest, East Nusa Tenggara”, published in the IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science in 2025, investigates the vital role of the endemic Eucalyptus urophylla forests of Timor Island—nicknamed “The Mother of Timor Island”—as a major terrestrial carbon sink. The study aimed to estimate the storage and absorption potential of litter carbon across production, protected, and conservation forests in the Mutis Timau area using a stratified sampling method guided by Landsat-8 ETM+ imagery. The Mutis forest is crucial for providing essential environmental services, such as clean water and honey, to the surrounding districts, but it faces threats from deforestation, customary forest claims, and frequent forest fires.
